Happy Birthday, CodeCargo!

Hip Hip Hooray!

One year ago, CodeCargo came into being…. except, it wasn’t CodeCargo, at all. A year ago, our five founders had an idea, about a company, and some enterprise problems, and that we could solve them. But we certainly didn’t have a company name. And we definitely didn’t have anything resembling a product. However, what we did have was a real passion for solving big customer problems, a history of having a lot of fun working together, a desire to return to our entrepreneurial roots, and an aspiration to build something transformational.
So, the five of us spent a lot of time brainstorming, and brainstorming, and brainstorming. There was also a lot of coding, but that’s above my pay grade. We talked about the challenges we knew that large enterprise customers had, about how AI would change developers' lives, about what DevOps teams needed, and came up with a lot of ideas. And some of those ideas sounded really good for a week or two, and then we found some weaknesses, and eventually put them aside, and moved on to better ideas. And we did that over and over again, for quite a while, until finally, we came up with the winning idea that is now CodeCargo.
At the same time, we struggled on what to name this company we were trying to create. Let’s just say, we’ve bought more than a few domains, and even had a few totally different names/logos designed before we settled on CodeCargo as the right name to embody our vision. Some of the names we discussed were so bad, I can’t even tell you about them.
Many times, the whole process felt really inefficient, like we were talking and talking and really not making a whole lot of progress. But during all the brainstorming, code-writing (and code discarding), and name-considering, we were bonding ourselves together as a leadership team. We were hashing out some tough decisions. We were learning how to communicate really well, and to listen to each other, and respect each other’s knowledge and opinions. We were forging ourselves into a well-oiled machine that was ready to take on the stress and rigor that comes with creating a startup from scratch and launching a company and product.
So sometimes culture is about being together and struggling through the uncertainty, the tough times, the wandering through the wilderness which is: we want to do this, but what exactly are we doing? I think the early days laid the foundation for our future success. A startup isn’t supposed to be easy. And by struggling, and arguing, and hashing it all out, we came upon the really awesome solution that today, we know as CodeCargo. And as a team, we’re a solid unit, working together, in stride, to bring it to market. So, happy birthday CodeCargo! We’re one year old, and the best is yet to come.
